1 Discussed expectations of design and of managing report with two Smithsonian units, contract writer, and contract project manager
2 Initial photo, font, and color, and paper research; researched previous reports, discussed design styles and key content and imagery with client
3 Multiple cover and interior concepts presented to client
4 On-going refinements made to cover and interior such as enlarging donor list to be more prominent than previous years and adjusting layout to fit with lengthened body and sidebar text; Many rounds of approvals
5 Thorough research for compelling photos through various internal Smithsonian resources, stock photography, and personal photography
6 Obtained printing bids
7 Obtained permissions and captions for final selected photos
8 Attended print press check and carefully reviewed printer proofs to ensure quality printing.
9 Satisfied client with elegant and effective annual report and development tool for reaching out to members. Report finished on time and with less time and expense than previous years
